A LONG WEDDED LIFE
PORT MONMOUTH COUPLE MARRIED 55 YEARS
Mr. and Mrs. John H. Walling Celebrate the Event With a Family Dinner ~ A Big Gathering of Children and Grandchildren.
Last Friday was the 55th anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Walling of Port Monmouth and a family dinneer was given in celebration of the event. The dinner was given at the home of their son, Charles Walling, who lives next door to the old folks, and was arranged by the children as a surprise to their parents. Mr. and Mars. Walling are both quite active and they entered heartily into the spirit of the occasion. Mr. Walling was very sick last winter with pneumonia. His health has been somewhat imparired even since, but he is still able to work about his farm. The couple received many presents of gold, besides various other articles.
Mr. and Mrs. Walling have three sons and two daughters. The sons are Charles Walling of Port Monmouth, Henry J Walling of Keyport and Elbert J. Walling, Sr., of Belford. The daughters are Mrs. Henry Coe of Port Monmouth and Mrs Edward Vaughn of Tottenville, Staten Island. They were all at the celebration except Elbert, who is in business at New York and could not get away. The couple have 26 grandchildren. They were all at the celebration except four. Several of the grandchildren are married and they were accompanied by their wives or husbands. Marion Sherman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Sherman of Brooklyn, is the only great-grandchild of the family. John Johnson of Keyport, a brother of Mrs. Walling, was also present at the celebration.
A group photograph of the family was taken during the day. Mr. and Mrs. Walling were surrounded by their children and grandchildren and Mrs. Walling held her great-grandchild on his knees.
